Do I need to have a certain amount of money to work with you?

No! We strive to make financial planning approachable to an underserved market. Because we typically work with clients in a accumulation phase of life, we understand that you're working on building your wealth.

Through the consultation process, we'll determine together whether our fee is affordable for you. If our fee is not feasible for a given situation, we'll do our best to provide you with referrals and other resources. Often, we'll suggest the recommended actions you should take before reconsidering hiring an advisor. Even if it's not in your best interest to hire an advisor now, we want to help you take steps to get there in the future!

Do you offer hourly planning?

Yes. We charge $150/hour for these services. We'll provide you with an estimate of required hours for your planning needs after the consultation process.

Are you a fiduciary?

Yes! We are required to act in your best interest (and it's also important to us). We never sell commission-generating products (or products of any kind!). If you need a product recommendation (i.e. life insurance), we'll walk through our recommended policy type, coverage amount, and review any quotes you receive from brokers to make sure you're getting the best coverage for your situation.

What is a CFP®?

CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professionals meet rigorous education, training and ethical standards, and have a fiduciary duty to act in their clients' best interests. CFP® professionals are trained in a variety of financial topics, including: financial psychology, taxes, investments, retirement planning, insurance, and estate planning, and must undergo years of training—4,000 to 6,000 hours in total—before they are eligible to place the letters after their names. They're also obligated to continue their education even after receiving certification.

Do you support the LGBTQ+ community and people of color?

At Money Illustrated, we respect diversity and aim to effectively serve all of our clients, whatever their needs and backgrounds. Having been founded by a member of the LGBTQ+ community, we have an emphasis on understanding the nuances of LGBTQ+ planning needs. Overall, Money Illustrated focuses on adding a fresh perspective to the financial services industry while better serving those who have historically been underrepresented and underserved in this industry.

Why should I hire an advisor?

Most people can learn a great deal about personal finance on their own. It's not rocket science, and we'll never try to overcomplicate things to try to make ourselves look smart.

But consider the following questions:
Do you have the time, the interest, and the skills required to create & execute your own comprehensive financial plan?
If you have the time, interest, and skills, are you going to take action on your own?
How confident are you that you will know what you need to know?

At Money Illustrated, we (and many financial planners throughout the profession) spend years acquiring degrees, professional designations, and experience to learn what is necessary to best serve you.

Another (in our opinion, underrated) component of financial planning, is acting as your accountability partner and guide. We get to know you and your situation throughout this process; this allows us to help you make difficult and/or complicated decisions along the way so you can keep heading in the direction you want to be going.

So many clients express feelings of significant relief and confidence gained while working through this process. Think about what you could do with the energy you were previously putting into stressing about your financial situation!
